Today we want to show you how to build the perfect superfood salad because for us, creating a salad can and should be more than just iceberg lettuce and a grilled chicken breast.

Building the perfect salad provides a huge superfood boost. Why? Because the perfect salad contains a wide variety of color, nutrients (micro and macro) and filling ingredients.

Step 1: Grab Your Greens (and then some)

  • Arugula
  • Bok Choy
  • Dino Kale
  • Kale
  • Romaine Lettuce
  • Watercress
  • Swiss Chard
  • Butter Lettuce
  • Spinach
  • Endive

Step 2: Add Substance with Grains & Beans

  • Black Beans
  • Black Rice
  • Red Lentils
  • Rainbow Quinoa
  • White Rice
  • Chickpeas
  • Kidney Beans
  • Green Beans
  • Couscous
  • Orzo

Step 3: Fruits & Vegetables (color & vitamins)

  • Apple
  • Cabbage
  • Avocado
  • Baby Carrots
  • Beets
  • Bell Peppers
  • Cucumber
  • Brussels Sprouts
  • Blackberry
  • Dried Cranberries
  • Zucchini
  • Mushrooms
  • Grapes
  • Green Olives
  • Red Onion
  • Mango
  • Strawberries
  • Tomato
  • Peas
  • Raspberries

Step 4: Pile on (even more) Protein

  • Egg
  • Chicken
  • Shrimp
  • Wild Salmon
  • Tuna

Step 5: Give it Some Crunch

Step 6: Flavorful Extras (the final boost)

  • Rosemary
  • Thyme
  • Lemon
  • Cheese
  • Basil
  • Dill
  • Capers
  • Kalamata Olives
  • Parsley
  • Nutritional Yeast

Step 7: Choose Your Dressing

Starting with step 1, layer a large bowl with all greens ingredients desired.

Continue to build out your superfood salad, layer-by-layer.


You’ll watch the bowl transform into a vibrant meal right before your eyes.


After you choose your dressing (step 7), mix the entire salad together using your hands or salad spoon.


Eat as much as you can and if you have leftovers, store in a jar (in the fridge) for later or for tomorrow’s lunch!

    I resemble this remark! I make a huge amount at a time and it stays fresh in a glass storage container. Add jicama to the list. Also, sardines are great. Leave out the tomatoes and scrape the seeds out of cucumber and it’s amazing how long this stays good. I love crunchy and I chop good. Red cabbage and radish (you forgot them!), no matter what it is, it’s a fine chop. Pumpkin seeds don’t forget. Also marinated artichokes that I buy from Costco, also cut fine with a scissor. GREAT ARTICLE!
