Hemp Oil: Your Secret Skin Care Weapon

Loaded with all 20 amino acids and more essential fatty acids than any nut or seed, it’s clear why adding hemp to your diet is a good idea—but can these same nutrients benefit your skin?

The answer: yes!

The Omega 3s & 6s found in hemp oil are responsible for its anti-inflammatory properties that can help combat common skin problems and keep your skin looking healthy.

It’s important to purchase organic, unrefined and cold-pressed hemp oil so you can be sure you’re using the highest quality and chemical-free oil on your skin.

Here are our 4 favorite ways to use hemp oil for a flawless complexion.

Acne Treatment

While it may seem counterintuitive to apply oil to acne prone skin, hemp oil boasts a comedogenic rating of 0 and does not clog pores. Thanks to the essential fatty acids present in hemp, hemp oil treats inflammation and redness without stripping your skin of its natural oils. The next time you experience a break-out, avoid common acne products containing harsh chemicals and apply hemp oil to your skin instead.

Face Mask

You don’t have to leave the house the next time you’re in need of a facial—create your own hemp oil mask in 3 easy steps! We love this hemp oil face mask because of its moisturizing and clarifying properties, plus it’s super gentle and chemical-free!

1 ripe avocado (about 2/3 cup)
3 Tbsp. Nutiva Organic Hemp Oil
1 Tbsp. Nutiva Organic Coconut Oil
2 Tbsp. Bentonite Clay (or French Clay)
4 drops lemongrass essential oil

Blend avocado, hemp oil, coconut oil and essential oil in a blender or food processor. Pour mixture into a bowl and stir in the clay. Apply to face and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse and pat dry.

One of the easiest ways to incorporate hemp oil into your skin care routine is to use it as a daily moisturizer. After cleansing your face and patting it dry, pour a dime-size amount of hemp oil into your hands and massage into your skin. You’ll immediately notice how hydrated and soft your skin looks and feels!

Creating a gentle, homemade soap can be achieved with as little as 5 ingredients—and hemp oil is one of them. Making your own soap is an easy way to save money and control what ingredients are being absorbed into your skin.

  2. Steve Cox says:

I just started using Nutiva on my face and arms. I’m also ingesting around one-third of an ounce at breakfast. I’ve been using it for 10 days now and have noticed that the age spots on my hands are lightening up. One hand is almost totally cleared . I also started using the oil for my itchy ears and it has greatly helped. I’m a 68 year old male.
Question. – Is ingesting a third of an ounce too much?

    1. Nutiva Team Nutiva says:

That’s great news! 1/3 of an oz. should be fine, if you are asking for health reasons, we recommend you consult your personal healthcare professional

  4. RB says:

    Hullo there,
Just wondering, will I have to keep my Nutiva Hemp oil refrigerated in order to keep it from going rancid once opened?
And if I don’t keep opening the bottle daily but not refrigerate it, will that extend its life or keep it from going rancid quickly ? Within how many months should the bottle last from the first opening for the best benefits/ results?
    Thank you very much!

    1. Nutiva Team Nutiva says:

      Hi RB,
We recommend refrigeration of hemp oil. The oil going rancid may depend on temperatures and conditions of storage.

I’m currently going through TSW/RSS (Topical Steriod Withdrawal AKA Red Skin Syndrome) on both eyes and travelling down the sides of my nose and mouth. It’s not pretty. I already have an eczema friendly diet, I don’t use any soaps and only SLS free shampoo. I made an oil mixture of all the supposed best EOs for Eczema/TSW and until one month in it was a great little batch!
However, now 4 and half weeks into withdrawal my RSS patches have totally freaked out as if I’m back at week one. My little potion seemed to be aggravating the patches and I thought maybe I’d just pare it right back to one of the more nourishing, less “active” EOs in the mix – Hemp Oil.
Tell you what – amazing. Day one of pure hemp oil only was tough because my skin was just so aggravated. Day two was a mild improvement but still very red, raw and swollen. Day three though and I can see the folds in my eyelids again! Skin is a bit more brown as opposed to tomato-red and less flaky and itchy. Looking forward to day four!

      That’s wonderful, Felicity!
