  • 1 tablespoon Organic Chia Seed

  2. Tweak lime juice to taste.

Ready for this Hemp and Pear-Licious Perfection Smoothie today?

This “blendsation” tastes like ice cream and contains a good amount of protein. Heart-healthy phytonutrients and fiber from the pears combine with anti-inflammatory ginger to help regulate the digestive system, tone the intestinal tract, and relieve bloating and nausea. I’ve used Nutiva hempseeds, chia seeds, and hemp oil to supercharge the healing potential of this shake.

Hemp and Pear-Licious Perfection Smoothie

Hempseeds are a wonder food, and are one of my go-to smoothie ingredients. For an injection of protein and other nutrients, I add between 1 teaspoon (undetectable in most blends) and 1 tablespoon (which starts to bring on a nutty flavor) to most smoothies. Unlike flaxseeds, hempseeds don’t require grinding to increase nutrient bioavailability–just throw them into the mix!

Loaded with vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, antioxidants, fiber and natural chlorophyll, hemp boosts immunity and promotes heart health. An amazing source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, hemp also provides complete and highly digestible protein. The amino acid edestin, which is unique to hemp and similar to the globulin in our blood plasma, makes the amino acid profile of hemp the closest to our own among plant sources.

Because its nutrients are easy for our systems to absorb, hemp is great in workout shakes, aiding muscle regeneration and fat metabolism and providing powerful anti-inflammatory properties to assist tissue repair.

I love making hemp milk by throwing 1 cup of hempseeds and 3 cups of water into your blender. Blast on high for about 60 seconds, and enjoy unstrained for maximum nutritional potential. Or, strain with a filtration bag, nut milk bag, or cheesecloth for a smooth commercial-style milk that’s great for smoothies.

I encourage you to add Nutiva hemp oil to your smoothies. Cold-pressed hemp oil has extraordinary health benefits, and one of the easiest ways to include this raw green oil in your diet is as a booster in smoothies. With a mild blend, 1 teaspoon or so will add a pleasing nutty flavor. Less than a teaspoon is generally undetectable; 1 tablespoon or more will bring a grassy back note to any blend. So add gradually to your taste.

Hemp oil has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and boasts a three-to-one ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids, and three other beneficial polyunsaturated fatty acids (gamma-linolenic acid, oleic acid, and stearidonic acid). Hemp oil also contains all the essential amino acids in a structure that makes them easily digestible. So, hop into hemp!
